(Sarah Scoop) Get The Scoop On Gal Friday

Written by Sarah Ruhlman for Sarah Scoop - 2017

When the sisters of country trio Gal Friday heard the term “girl Friday” described on television, they knew instantly it was the perfect name for their band. “A woman on television referred to her best friend as her ‘girl Friday’ – her confidant, her Friday night out, her ride-or-die,” says member Melissa York. “We tweaked it a bit, being from the south – and Gal Friday was born.” Comprised of York, Ashley Min and Lauren Wilson, the sound that accompanies the endearing name is a sonically pleasing blend of the best their upbringing had to offer: southern gospel, rock, bluegrass and country. Their synergistic sibling harmonies and bluegrass soul peppered with notes of southern rock has resulted in a style that is unique and undeniably catchy.

How did you three get started in the music industry?
We grew up singing in church and as we got older, many people would come up to us and ask us why we were not performing professionally.  As sisters, we would get asked to sing all the time at events so we wondered why we had not thought of that ourselves.  So we put a band together, gave ourselves a name and have been performing ever since.  ~ Ashley

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (August 8, 2017) - Sister country trio Gal Friday will take the stage this Saturday, August 12 beginning at 7 p.m. EST at Village Park Amphitheater. The performance is in support of fellow country actDiamond Rio, who will take the stage beginning at 8:30 p.m. EST.

"We spent countless hours learning every harmony part in every one of Diamond Rio's songs and now we get to share the stage with them in our home state of North Carolina," said Melissa York, member of Gal Friday. "It doesn't get better then that."

The trio will perform alongside the legendary band again later this month when they play at the Panama City Beach Pepsi Gulf Coast Jam. The show will coincide with the release of Gal Friday's latest single, "Scrapyard", available September 1.

Originally from N.C., members York, Lauren Wilson and Ashley Min were raised in a family rooted in music. With parents members of a successful bluegrass band, it wasn't long before each of the girls picked up instruments and began singing. At the urging of those that had seen them perform together, the sisters decided to form Gal Friday - a name that represents a girl's best friend and confidant. Since forming the trio, Gal Fridayhas been a featured opener for a myriad of notable acts, including Keith Urban, The Band Perry, Jason Aldean, Lee Brice, Kellie Pickler, Chase Rice, Wynonna Judd and Travis Tritt, among others.

Gal Friday is set to release new album "Smoke and Mirrors" in late September.
